September

September 6th

On our first day of school, we unpacked the values of collaboration. During our learning task, we scaffolded on how to collaborate and why to collaborate. We took time, to reflect and share what is difficult and simple, any tensions between team members.

September 7th

The continue  to explore the importance of valuing classmates ideas and thinking during collaboration. The students are co-creating the collaborative skills by reflecting on the intrapersonal and interpersonal relationship.

September 8th

The students explored creativity through the visual alphabet. The collaborative thinking by communicating visually. We are also beginning to explore innovation by designing a school back. The student designed a selfie avatar to share 2 stars about their learning and a wish that they would like to accomplish.

September 9th, 2016

Today we designed avatars on My Blue Robot creator, to create a selfie explaining 2 stars that describe the strengths and a wish to improve on. Grade 6 PM wrote six-word stories describing themselves. The students explored System 1 thinking and System 2 Thinking, being able to analyze, infer, describe and problem solve by reasoning about their thinking.

September 12

The students continued reflecting about collaboration, communication, system 1 and system 2 thinking. We are recognizing the challenges during our daily tasks for trying to communicate in French. As we continue to explore innovation and creativity we focus on valuing other's ideas.

Both classes are continuing with the six-word story about themselves. The selfies avatar are ready to be posted on their blog.

September 13

Grade 6 AM began creating their blog for this year. We continue completing the avatars and the six-word story. Both groups began exploring explicit thinking through a guided practice of the Causal Model. Te model begins with a statement as students continue exploring by asking the question what causes that?  It is their initial task of the model by focusing on our French classroom community.

Grade 6 PM they already found a name for their group it is JEFF_ Junior Excellent Francais fantastique.

Septembre 14th

The Grade 6 students had an opportunity today to learn from Erin Kenedy a computer engineering who designs robots. We reflected on what we have learned and the experience we have gained from her visit.

The Grade 6 AM continue explaining the causal model and explicitly explain about our classroom being a bilingual community.  Most students this morning had a chance to create their blog and learned how to embed HTML Google drawing.

The JEFF Grade 6 PM began inquiring about how to connect alligator clips to make a light bulb lights up. There were many interesting conversations about the how and what the circuits functions, as well as discovering new learning.

Thursday September 15th

Both classes continue creating the blogs and embedding the avatar selfie with 2 stars and a wish for this year, including the six-word story about themselves.

The Groups continue unpacking their thinking and learning about circuits and currents.

More videos about the causal model of our classroom collaborating in French.

September 16th

The Grade 6 morning class explored switches, applied the french vocabulary during the circuit building. The blogs are almost ready and the students will still embed a calendar to be applied as agenda.
The Grade 6PM worked with a supply on Friday PM as I was away sharing my learning at the Universty of Ottawa.

September 19th

The Grade 6 Am students decided to call their group the System 2 Thinkers. The System 2 Thinkers continued to apply their knowledge and understanding about electricity. Each team chose a word to explain and create an open-ended question for the other groups. The students will explore their learning tomorrow.

The JEFF's  Applied and analyzed by explaining what are open and closed circuits.

September 20th

System 2 Thinkers completed the Gallery Walk today to apply their communication skills in French about electricity, to appy their critical thinking at giving feedback about other's thinking. We reflected about how they have read, improved the grammar. We will be reflecting and reading students feedback and applying to improve the learning.  The students  are taking full responsibility and ownership of their learning.

The JEFF began their critical thinking about explaining an electrical object.  asking an open ended question and started giving feedback.

Septembre 21st

The System 2 Thinkers had a chance to apply the feedback from their classmates about the functions of electricity. We began our reading strategies of KWL and using annotations when reading. We had a great discussion about electrical cars.

The Jeff continue the Gallery walk giving feedback about the functions of electricity from their classmates. They also applied a listening strategy from Renewable Energy video by writing down what they heard on the same chart paper. They then compare the words that they have in common. We consolidated about the words. After replaying the video we identified the unknown and new words describing renewable energy.

September 22nd

The System 2 Thinkers applied annotation when reading to analyze the text. They also read to collect facts as data in the ladder of inference. t interpret the data and be able to conclude if electric cars are popular and explain why. The students also listened to the French CBC news and Radio about energy and electric cars.

The JEFF started with the listening of the CBC reports and making connexions. Tomorrow they will apply the annotation to the reading and complete the ladder of inference. The JEFF began exploring the parallel circuits and beginning to learn what is static electricity.

September 23rd

The System 2 Thinkers were able to comment on each other's blogs and embed a calendar. We also determined how to reflect on the calendar. They also had enough time to identify and differentiate what is parallel and series circuits.

The JEFF completed the process of how to analyze a text when reading to gather information about electric cars. They also had time to gather collecting the data for the ladder of inference, from CBC TV and CBC radio to interpret if electric cars are popular. The Jeff were able to comment on others' blogs and some began embedding the calendars.

September 26th

The System 2 Thinkers had time to check and clarify the homework for Friday. They also had a chance to explore static electricity. We need to continue unpacking the static and how come there is a charge.

The JEFF went to mass and we ran our of time to review the blog post for Friday. We will review and clarify the blog post tomorrow. They worked in teams to explore electricity and practice the responsibility skill of learning together and clarifying in French what they know and they don't know. More reflections about team work and collaborative learning.

September 27th

System 2 Thinkers were able to explore centers to apply their knowledge and French communication about circuits and static electricity.  They are beginning to reflect on their individual calendars about what they have learned and what they have confirmed.

The JEFF consulted about circuits and began reflecting on their calendars. They are set for their blog post that is due on Friday.

September 28th

System 2 Thinkers had two full blocks today. They have completed their reflections and explored how motors connect and function. They were able to add a cloth pin at the end of the motor to create vibrations. The students began explicitly explaining through the causal model what is static electricity.

The JEFF were able to reflect on parallel circuits and explore with cardboard and foil to create a switch. We will have to blocks tomorrow to continue exploring with circuits and tools.

September 29th

System 2 Thinkers were able to add to the function of the robot. We will continue to experience the process and reflect on collaboration and creativity.

The JEFF clarified parallel circuits and began exploring with motors. They were able to add on to the function and experience the process of innovation and creativity. More reflections tomorrow and highlighting the importance of valuing others' ideas.

September 30

System 2 Thinkers reflected about Terry Fox being a hero. After listening to the video they began reading, applying annotation and starting to collect facts for the Ladder of Inference. Block 1 turned out to be shorter than usual. We will continue with the reconciliation discussion , with the comments for the blog posts.

The Jeff in teams read and completed reading, applying annotation for analyzing the text and collected facts from the text to draw to the conclusion if Terry Fox is a hero. During the last block, they had to iterate their robots and improve what they constructed on Thursday.  They will reflect on creativity and collaboration and explain how they iterated their robot.
